Our Mission
The mission of The NIU Roller Hockey Team
is to provide a competitive hockey program at the collegiate level for all students. NIU
Hockey teaches the players life skills, helps build their self-esteem and teaches good sportsmanship, while striving for academic
excellence. We are highly competitive and have been slowly gaining success for the past several years. Our
organization wants to continually gain respect from the MCRHL, NCRHA
and mainly the university by excelling each year with our attitude
and game play.
Our History
The NIU Roller
Hockey Club was started in 2003. It was recognized by the SA in 2004. In our first year we became an affiliate team in the MCRHL. The second year we became an active member of the league. Last
year, as an active member of the DII division of the MCRHL, we placed as the #1 team and got an invite to the regional
tournament. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend because of an issue the league
had with another team. Since we placed #1 in our division we also got a bid to
go to nationals which was in St.
Louis. We attended nationals and experienced an eye opening
tournament. Since it was against teams from all over the country, we didn’t
fair very well against most of the more experienced teams. This year we are hoping
to improve our record and be noted as the best Division II team in the Midwest.
2008-2009
This year was
a hard year for us because of a thin squad do to a lack of player commitment and injuries. We finished with a record
of 4 wins and 8 losses which came late in the season.
